Showcasing a selection of paediatric products

Theraposture showcased a selection of paediatric products from its quality adjustable bed range including a high sided Hannah cot, Theracare Low adjustable bed and future proof Mascot cot. The electrically powered Mascot is the only variable height cot that provides complete flexibility as it can be adapted to suit changing needs. When a child grows and develops the Mascot can be reconfigured with different access options, door heights and design features – a cot for life that negates the need to purchase a new bed in the future.

This cost effective, future proof cot is the assured solution that provides a visually open space that is safe for children with challenging behaviour or specialist support needs. It can be specified with Theraposture’s precision-fitted padding and a choice of door inserts ranging from coloured rails to Perspex – all helping to provide a safe space that is not enclosed. The Mascot continues to make a huge difference to the well- being of disabled children whilst delivering peace of mind to parents – once again reiterated by families visiting Kidz-to- Adultz-Middle.

Engaging with families

The Theraposture Trusted Assessors were busy throughout the show explaining why the Mascot is the preferred choice for parents looking to give their child safety and reassurance. Several families who already own a Mascot visited the stand and reiterated this message as Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director explains: “We were delighted to welcome so many existing and potential customers onto our stand at Kidz Middle this year – it was a lively and positive show as ever. Engaging face-to- face with families gives us the opportunity to hear about the latest challenges they face and how we can hopefully resolve them.”

Liam continues:

“Some parents and therapists have been told by their equipment services that providing a care cot can be difficult currently due to an argument regarding ‘deprivation of liberty’. This can lead to frustration for many professionals and families as often the recommended alternative can be a mattress at floor level within a padded environment. Many of the families and therapists we met at Kidz-to- Adultz felt this alternative was no different to sleeping in a safe and secure adjustable cot bed – apart from the obvious lack of manual handling assistance for parents and carers. Parents in particular found this alternative difficult to accept as they had often observed their children were clearly happier and contented when playing or sleeping in a Mascot through positive facial expressions and body language. Plus, parents could relax in the knowledge their child could not injury themselves when unsupervised at night.” Liam concludes: “From a practical point of view the height adjustable Mascot is also essential for parents as it provides safe working heights. It eliminates excessive bending or stooping when attending to children so potential back injury can be avoided. If mattress platform profiling is included in a Mascot a child can sleep with their head elevated which is essential when using a ventilator or being tube fed at night. All-in-all we know how good our Mascot is, however to hear such positive feedback from existing clients will enhance the faith OTs and families already place in our beds and cots.”
