On stand J40 at the OT Show, Theraposture supported by Shaun Masters, Occupational Therapist, will be presenting the new Rotoflex 235 Plus Mk2 turning bed alongside the popular Theracare Leg Lifter and a bespoke double combination adjustable bed.

The OT Show, J40, NEC, Birmingham, 27 and 28 November 2019

Theraposture has been a respected supplier of quality adjustable beds, chairs and care cots since 1981. Its  Rotoflex 235 Plus turning bed won the respected OT Show ‘Excellence in Caring’ Award last year.

Supported by OT Shaun Masters, the Theraposture stand at the OT Show will display a series of proven solutions for safe bed transfers that focus on community enablement.

Theraposture Trusted Assessors work closely with OTs during their clinically led assessments so that individual client needs are always met in terms of appropriate sleeping solutions. At the OT Show, Theraposture will be demonstrating a series of products that are suitable for varying client abilities with a focus on enablement within the community. These power-assisted solutions are proven to reduce care costs and relieve strain on NHS and social care budgets. Through ownership of either a Theraposture Rotoflex bed, leg lifter or adjustable bed, individuals with restricted mobility are able to improve their own occupational performance and sleep hygiene.

Shaun Masters, OT and Theraposture Trusted Assessor comments:

“We welcome all healthcare professionals to visit stand J40 to discuss individual client needs on a one-to-one basis and to discover why Theraposture products are the considered choice. We will demonstrate power-assisted solutions that offer a range of support for adults – from assistance with getting legs into bed through to complete rotational support from a sitting to a supine position. This product series delivers multiple clinical and well-being benefits and with the appropriate prescription, aims to encourage active mobility while maintaining safety and control. The 14-day Suitability Guarantee on all Theraposture products ensures a positive outcome every time, along with client peace of mind.”

Shaun adds:

“Maintaining client mobilisation is the priority here, however by choosing Theraposture products, pressure on NHS and social care budgets can also be reduced. The Rotoflex rotational bed range for example, is proven to reduce carer intervention from two-to-none – in these scenarios up to £27,000 per annum can be saved in care costs. By visiting us at the OT Show my fellow peers will be able to, not only understand these advantages, but gain CPD hours by attending my on stand ‘Getting legs into bed‘ seminars.”

On stand J40 the following solutions will be displayed:

Award-winning Theraposture Rotoflex 235 Plus Mk2 – part of the largest range of rotational beds available, the latest Rotoflex 235 Plus builds on the success of its predecessor. This bed for one person provides a feature-rich, standard solution that is suitable for the majority of individuals who need powered, rotational assistance to move from a supine to fully upright seated position with their feet on the floor.

This Rotoflex is totally unique – it is the only rotational bed in the world with a Powered Rising Foot Support for supported leg elevation. Traditionally all rotating beds have had to encompass a static foot section of mattress so that the rotating platform would not clash with the footboard, not anymore. With the use of one controller, the Rotoflex 235 Plus Mk2 provides powered elevation of a separate foot section with complete profiling, rotational and variable height. Being able to raise feet and legs in bed in a supportive and controlled manner can provide a wider range of health and well-being benefits.

The Rotoflex is the original turning bed refined over 20 years which is patented and cannot be directly copied. The bespoke Theraposture range includes low access, bariatric and double combination versions available with a variety of specialist mattresses. The Rotoflex is regularly prescribed by therapists as it includes a vertical lift in the seated position ie. it does not tip users forward like other beds or riser chairs.

This is critical for safe sit-to-stand transfer especially for those with strength and balance inconsistencies resulting from neurological conditions.

Theraposture Double Combination Bed – handcrafted, bespoke and durable adjustable beds for couples to share. Theraposture is a specialist in custom made beds with an infinite choice of size, style, functions and finish that allow people to continue sleeping together despite varying abilities. Consisting of two separate mattresses and adjustable sleeping platforms in one surround, each side can be fitted with electrically powered profiling and variable height. A Rotoflex turning system can also be integrated within the design so individuals requiring greater assistance can access the bed and adjust positioning without disturbing their partner.

Combined with a specialist range of mattresses for varying degrees of pressure management through to numerous safety devices, Theraposture beds offer hospital-grade strength and support within an attractive domestic look. Steel frames and mechanisms deliver better performance when combined to cheaper wooden alternatives, so longer term value and reliability is assured.

Theracare Leg Lifter – compatible with most types of bed, this reliable solution lifts legs up, over and onto a sleeping surface. Unlike other similar devices, the Theracare Leg Lifter positions a user’s legs nearer the centre of the bed, so minimal repositioning is required. The motor is quiet and strong enough to lift severely oedemic (swollen) legs. A simple yet highly effective solution for individuals with postural control.

Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director comments:

“We are delighted to have won this prestigious award as it officially recognises our Rotoflex as the considered choice. No other rotating bed system can deliver the same level of user support – resulting from a concept continually refined over a period of 20 years. It is a quality, considerately designed specialist bed, backed-up by ethical and caring assessment-led service. By working so closely with Occupational Therapists since 1981, we are able to understand more deeply the challenges that clients face – hence enhancing and widening the bespoke Rotoflex range to meet individual needs more precisely. Our award-winning Rotoflex 235 Plus is a culmination of all our experience particularly when you consider its in-built and unique Powered Rising Foot Support – a world’s first in rotating bed. This accolade we believe will send a clear signal to all healthcare professionals and end users that the Rotoflex is still the original and best.”

Therapostures Rotoflex range

The Rotoflex range from Theraposture is most established and trusted powered turning bed system – patented and totally unique. Often copied but never equalled, it facilitates safe and stable transfers in and out of bed through advanced engineering.

OT show - product award winner No other rotating bed provides the same level of ergonomics and support so users living with restricted mobility can independently access a bed with maximised safety and reassurance. Clients commonly with neurological conditions, such as MS and Parkinson’s, greatly benefit from its ability to move and rotate from a recumbent to a fully upright seated position. It is endorsed by the charity Parkinson’s UK – Theraposture is one of its chosen specialist product suppliers. With its vertical lift in the seated position, controlled standing and seating is possible for those with balance and strength inconsistencies – all without the need for carer assistance. When a carer is reduced from two-to-none, the Rotoflex is proven to save up to £27,000 per year in carer costs and eliminates the need for relocation into a care home.

Rotoflex 235 Plus offers even greater value

The latest Rotoflex 235 Plus offers even greater value as its streamlined and modular design is suitable for a wider range of user needs.

Rotoflex 235 profilingIt includes Theraposture’s patented powered rising foot support as standard, is ideally suited to users weighing up to 31 stones and is only available as a bed for one.

Shaun Masters, OT and Trusted Assessors hosted a series of sessions which provided invaluable awareness regarding safe bed transfers and specialist modular cots for children. Featuring the Rotoflex 235 Plus, Shaun’s

The Theraposture stand at the 2017 OT Show will host the unveiling of ground-breaking Rotoflex bed innovations.

Solutions for OTs

Since 1981, Theraposture has been the considered choice for OTs seeking quality, reliable and proven rotational bed systems. The powered Rotoflex from Theraposture is the original and trusted turning bed that moves a user from a recumbent to fully upright seated position at the side of the bed. Its unique functionality includes vertical seat lift so users achieve safer sit-to-stand transfers and can enjoy greater independence at home. The Rotoflex range from Theraposture is the widest available which provides OTs and their clients with appropriate product provision every time. This range has just been extended with the introduction of two new Rotoflex models and a ground-breaking retro-fit option.

Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director comments:

“I would like to invite all healthcare professionals onto our stand at the OT Show – the launch of our new Rotoflex beds is not to be missed. I believe these additional designs represent a breakthrough in ergonomics and support for end users. They build on the proven performance of our Rotoflex range with the addition of extra functionality, functionality that resolves a common problem.”

Liam continues:

“There may now be other rotating beds, but there is only one Rotoflex and we are going to explain why the Rotoflex is notably different, unique in its design and functionality, protected from direct copy and completely trusted for over 20 years. Our Trusted Assessors will be joined by the German inventor of the Rotoflex so OTs have the opportunity to understand why this turning bed solution is truly the
considered choice.”

Alongside these exciting innovations, Theraposture will be demonstrating the ‘future-proof’ Mascot Mark 2 Care Cot and the current popular Rotoflex Low Access bed. Trusted Assessors will be on hand throughout the show to discuss individual client needs and there will be a range of free educational literature available.

Newlife, the charity for Disabled Children, will also be on the stand ready to explain how its close relationship with Theraposture benefits paediatric OTs and their clients.

Theraposture provided successful Rotoflex and Mascot seminars and new educational literature at Rise 4 Disability (7 th Sept, Kent Showground).

Rise 4 Disability is a free exhibition that provides the latest products, services and information to assist with independent living. As one of the leading specialists exhibiting at the show, Theraposture demonstrated its fully future-proofed Mascot cot and proven Rotoflex rotational bed on stand B1 and during a series of educational presentations. Paediatric and Adult Healthcare Professionals and Occupational Therapists were able to see first-hand why Theraposture and its products are the considered choice.

Lecture with man sitting on cot bed
Liam Braddell, Theraposure Sales Director, demonstrates why the Mascot Mk2 is the only fully future proofed care cot at Rise 4 Disability.

Product demonstrations and new literature

In addition to live product demonstrations, Theraposture provided copies of its latest educational literature – a guide to assistive turning bed systems. This guide contains vital information for professionals, families and disabled users so they can make more of an informed decision regarding rotating bed selection. It highlights the many factors to consider so that independence is maximised and the pitfalls of selecting an inferior or inappropriate product can be avoided. Theraposture’s proven rotating bed, the one and only Rotoflex, was on display at Rise 4 Disability and generated high levels of interest from visitors. Its leading ergonomics, quality and the unmatched range of sizes, user capacities, entrance heights and aesthetic design options were clear to see. Its vertical seat lift functionality was highlighted and demonstrated as the considered safe sit-to- stand solution for users struggling with balance and weight bearing as the Rotoflex does not tip users forward like a riser chair and other rotating beds.

Educational seminars on the Mascot cot

Paediatric OTs and families were keen to understand more about the Mascot Mk2 cot at Rise 4 Disability. The educational seminars delivered by Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director, provided the opportunity to understand why this height adjustable cot is the most cost-effective, long-term choice. Information regarding this popular market leading product was provided along with the new cot funding guide from Theraposture – another essential piece of educational information that assists professionals and families.

Liam summaries:

“Rise 4 Disability gave us the opportunity to showcase why we are the considered choice. During the Speed Sourcing Seminars I was able to explain how we consider every aspect of product and service provision so clients receive the most appropriate sleeping solution every time. We are a caring and ethical business with a reputation for high quality products that maximise safety and independence. Our latest educational literature perfectly complemented our product showcase and underlines our commitment to supporting professionals and families through objective and informed advice.”

Rise 4 Disability, the Resourcing and Identifying Suitable Equipment Conference and Exhibition, will provide an opportunity for healthcare professionals, families and people with disabilities to discover the latest equipment to improve mobility and independence.

As the leading specialist in assistive beds, chairs and care cots since 1981, we will be attending Rise 4 Disability and would like to invite you onto stand C1. Come and discover why our products deliver outstanding comfort, quality, safety and value – all backed up by an impeccable and ethical service. Our Rotoflex rotational bed will be demonstrated at the event as it is the original and proven solution for getting in and out of bed safely and independently.

Our trusted Assessor will be available to explain why the German-engineered Rotoflex is the trusted and ergonomic choice for people and clients with neurological conditions such as MS and Parkinson’s. Developed over 20 years, the Rotoflex range from Theraposture is the widest available with tailor made designs specifically handcrafted to solve individual needs. Through its profiling, height adjustable and rotational action each Rotoflex will move a user from an upright seated position to a recubant position and vice versa – in a controlled and safe manner. With this powered assistance, users can remain in their home for longer, get in and out of bed on their own terms and reduce the need for moving and handling support.

This sophisticated and proven adjustable bed has been developed over a period of 20 years and allows people living with restricted mobility to access a bed independently and safely without the assistance of a carer.  Getting legs into bed is a problem for many people however the electrically operated Rotoflex will enable the user to get in and out of bed mostly without assistance or other equipment such as a hoist.  This can negate or reduce the need for carer assistance and helps elderly and disabled people to continue living in the community without the need to relocate into a care home.

According to a report by Prestige Nursing and Care, the cost of a care home room has risen by 5.2% in the last year, more than 10 times the average increase in pensioner’s income. With an average annual income of £14,456, less than six months’ care could be paid for by a pensioner – equating to a shortfall of £317 a week. This is 9% higher than a year ago and results in a funding gap of £16,470 a year. Jonathan Bruce, the Managing Director of Prestige Nursing, said: “It is particularly alarming that care home costs have risen almost 10 times as much as pensioner incomes in real terms, with the result that older people will find the challenge of paying for care even more out of their reach.”

By purchasing a Rotoflex rotational bed from Theraposture, individuals can remain in their own home for longer without the need to move into expensive residential care. Once this specialist bed has been paid for, around £30,000 in care cost savings can be achieved per annum – either by avoiding care home costs or the high fees associated with domiciliary and day carers. This can significantly relieve the financial strain on families and commonly avoids the use of inheritance funds to pay for care. David Holtum, Theraposture Managing Director concludes: “The Rotoflex can reduce carer assistance with bed transfers from two carers to one, and in some cases can eliminate carer assistance altogether delivering true independence.

Where two private home carers are replaced, or residential care is eliminated, the Rotoflex bed could pay for itself typically in just 14 weeks.”
